An intensive course introducing trainees to the brakes system. Where applicable the course covers the air supply, brake control, Wheel Slide Prevention (WSP), ancillary equipment and the Brake Control Unit (BCU) maintenance tool.

On successful completion of the course the trainee will be able to:

• Understand the main components and operating principles of the brake control system
• Understand the main components and operating principles of the air system
• Understand the principles employed for the control of air suspension, horn system, auxiliary air equipment and train rescue
• Understand the functions of the BCU
